Quaternary Paleoenvironmental Reconstruction

This lecture/lab course considers the history and stratigraphic record of environmental change during the Quaternary Period (roughly the last 2 million years) and critically presents the various techniques used to reconstruct such changes and to understand their causes. Emphasis is given to both continuous long-term records (e.g. ice cores, marine sediments) which provide information on large regional or global scale changes in climate, and to other proxy environmental indicators of more localized significance. PREREQ: GEOL/ENSC 1406 or GEOL 1006/07 and at least one second year science course. Students cannot retain credit for ENSC 4406 and GEOL 4406 (lec 3, lab 3) cr 3.
